Sue McKenzie

With a playing career performing everything from salsa and bluegrass to the contemporary classical repertoire, Sue is happy to look at any genre of music that interests students.  She has a particular interest in teaching improvisation, helping students make a great sound as well as guiding students on how to practice in a creative way.  Sue sees students at home in East Lothian or online (via Zoom).

Sue is a Yanagisawa UK / D’Addario Woodwinds Artist and has a varied playing career working with her own UK/US trio Multifarious, internationally renowned Salsa Celtica, Grupo Magnetico, Glasgow Improvisor's Orchestra and Australian DJ, Hot Dub Time Machine.

 

Recent gigs include Jazz Cafe / 606 Club (London) and West Holts Stage (Glastonbury) and she has recorded with Linn Records, Delphian Records, Discos Leon, Greentrax Records and Athens of the North label.

Sue has recently given masterclasses at University of Tennessee (US) , Royal Birmingham Conservatoire of Music, Georgia Southern University (US) and Friends University (Kansas, US).  As well as workshops for London Jazz Festival, Edinburgh International Jazz and Blues Festival and the Youth Music Initiative.

She studied with Kyle Horch at Royal College of Music, Eugene Rousseau (Japan), Lynn Klock (University of Massachusetts) and David Murray (World Saxophone Quartet).

Mike Brogan

 

Whether you wish to pass grade exams or simply learn some good tunes, Mike has the expertise to get the best out of your playing. All ages and abilities are very welcome, and all interests are catered for. We will focus on perfecting your technique and sound, helping you perform in any style, from classical, to jazz, to rock. Mike is available for one-to-one lessons In central Edinburgh, or online via Zoom.

Michael Brogan BMus(Hons) is a Henri Selmer Paris Artist, a D'Addario Woodwinds Artist, and a member of the Scottish Saxophone Ensemble and Marram. He regularly gigs with The Soul Establishment, the Woo Hoo Band, Nick Bruce and his Blinding Lights, and has recorded and performed as a member of the Apollo Saxophone Orchestra. Notable performances include sell-out appearances at multiple Edinburgh Fringe and Jazz Festivals, SOUND Festival, Prague Fringe Festival, and broadcasts for BBC1, ITV, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio 3, and BBC Radio 6 Music.

As a Director of the music and film collective Transgressive North, Mike has co-produced several projects with international artists including Jarvis Cocker, Four Tet, Son Lux, Irvine Welsh, Owen Pallett, Deerhoof, Phil Elverum, and Luke Sutherland.

Mike is saxophone tutor for Napier University and Edinburgh University, and enjoys a busy private teaching practice. He has taught at St Andrews University, St Mary's Music School, and for the Enterprise Music Scotland and Live Music Now schemes. Further work with Creative Scotland’s Youth Music Initiative sees Mike visit schools across Scotland as a tutor on the award-winning Jazz Programme.
