Led by saxophonists Sue McKenzie (Yanagisawa / D’Addario Artist) and Mike Brogan (Henri Selmer Paris / D’Addario Artist) this course will give young musicians the opportunity to play in large saxophone ensembles, intermediate / advanced level small ensembles, improvisation sessions, masterclasses and more. A variety of musical styles will be covered and the week will culminate in a public concert on the last day.
We're pleased to welcome guest tutor David Milne (USA, Selmer Artist) to Summer Saxes! David visited for a short session during our 2018 course, and we're delighted he will join us for the full five days this year. David is saxophone tutor at The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, as well as an accomplished composer and performer with many high profile collaborations to his name (Minnesota Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Bob Mintzer, Bobby McFerrin, Ray Charles Smokey Robinson).
This non-residential summer school aims to inspire players with an interest in ensemble playing, whilst also providing specific instrumental guidance on areas of playing such as tone, technique, reeds and mouthpieces.
There will be a presentation from Henri Selmer Paris, including a chance to try the brand new Claude Delangle Alto mouthpiece.
The course will take place within the fantastic facilities of the Robertson Music Centre (St George's School for Girls) and is a 20 minute walk from Haymarket Railway Station.
This course is open to:
Students between 12 - 24 years of age, playing soprano, alto, tenor or baritone saxophone
